A convicted felon from Pell City, Alabama, has entered a guilty plea for illegal possession of firearms. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

Kelvontae Rashad Wallace, 26, admitted guilt before U.S. District Judge R. David Proctor to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a machinegun.

The plea agreement detailed that between December 2023 and January 2024, Wallace illegally possessed firearms on two occasions.

On December 15, 2023, Talladega police responded to a shooting incident at the Orange #1 gas station. They discovered a victim with gunshot wounds in the stomach, back, and legs. At the scene, officers found five .45 caliber shell casings and bullet holes in the store’s windows and door. Surveillance footage revealed Wallace arriving at the location and shooting the victim with a Glock pistol modified into a machinegun using a “Glock switch.”

On January 2, 2024, officers from the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force and Pell City Police Department went to arrest Wallace for warrants related to assault and shooting into an occupied building stemming from the December incident in Talladega. During this attempt, Wallace tried to escape but was apprehended by officers who found a Century Arms Micro VSKA 7.62x39mm pistol with ammunition in his apartment.

The case was investigated by multiple agencies including ATF, U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force, Pell City Police Department, Talladega Police Department, and Anniston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy M. Peoples prosecuted the case.
