A Bay Minette man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy. Ladarrius Markeil Fields, 30, pleaded guilty to participating in the distribution of bulk methamphetamine between October and December 2024.

According to court documents, narcotics investigators learned on December 9, 2024, that a significant methamphetamine transaction was planned at a truck stop in Whistler. When agents attempted to stop Fields’s vehicle near the location, he fled by reversing out of a parking lot and discarding a large bag into a drainage ditch before coming to a halt. Authorities arrested Fields and recovered nearly one pound of methamphetamine packaged in five separate baggies.

Fields admitted during an interview that he purchased the drugs from a supplier with whom he had previously served time in prison. He also stated that he had met his supplier on December 8 at a gas station near Meaher Avenue in Prichard and came to the truck stop the next day after being given the wrong bag by mistake. According to Fields, he had bought one or two pounds of methamphetamine approximately 15 times over two months. At one point during questioning, Fields said, “Y’all caught me bro, red handed.”

Court records indicate that Fields has multiple prior convictions related to drug possession and distribution and was released from Alabama state prison earlier in 2024.

Senior U.S. District Judge William H. Steele sentenced Fields to serve 120 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release with mandatory drug testing and treatment requirements. The judge also ordered $100 in special assessments but did not impose any fines.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuted the case.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello for the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentencing.

This prosecution is part of the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) initiative under Executive Order 14159: Protecting the American People Against Invasion. The HSTF coordinates efforts among several federal agencies—including Homeland Security Investigations, FBI, DEA, ATF—and focuses on combating criminal cartels and transnational crime organizations across the United States.
