A Birmingham man has received a 20-year federal prison sentence for gun and drug offenses, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

Isaiah De’Monte De’Mario Henley, age 31, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Anna Manasco to 240 months in prison. In March 2025, Henley pleaded guilty to several charges: distribution of methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute those substances, carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, possession of a machine gun, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Court records show that during July and August 2024, Henley sold methamphetamine and fentanyl on three occasions to a confidential informant. On August 8, 2024, after selling drugs to the informant in West Birmingham, law enforcement attempted to arrest him. Henley fled into a residence, dropped a bag while escaping out the back door, and threw away a Glock 9mm pistol fitted with a machine gun-conversion device—known as a “Glock switch”—into tall grass before he was apprehended by officers. Police recovered the modified weapon along with an extended magazine that was fully loaded, approximately 465 grams of methamphetamine, and more than seven grams of fentanyl.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI together with the Vestavia Hills Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany T. Byrd.
