A federal jury in Dothan, Alabama, has found Larenta Deshawn Dawkins, 38, guilty of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson.
Court records and evidence presented during the trial indicated that law enforcement began investigating suspected drug trafficking activity in Houston County in July 2024. Investigators discovered that Dawkins received packages containing methamphetamine shipped from out of state to Dothan. Further investigation showed that he used a storage unit in Dothan to keep the drugs after receiving them.
Law enforcement officers searched the storage unit and found two boxes containing about five pounds of methamphetamine along with three bags of marijuana. Agents also executed a search warrant at Dawkins’s residence, where they seized items connecting him to the storage unit.
Dawkins is scheduled for sentencing in the coming months and faces a maximum sentence of life in federal prison. There is no parole available in the federal system.
The case was investigated by the Dothan Police Department, Eufaula Police Department, and Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant United States Attorneys Chelsea Wilson and Joel Feil prosecuted the case.
