A Foley man, Ladarious Roper, has been sentenced to 85 months in prison for possessing a firearm linked to a shooting incident. The 22-year-old was previously convicted of a felony offense of violence.

Court documents reveal that on October 11, 2024, Roper possessed a CZ Scorpion semi-automatic weapon during the shooting. On that day, 911 received reports of five shots fired and a victim shot in the lower leg. The victim claimed they were shot by an individual wearing a red ski mask from a sedan. Foley officers discovered an abandoned Toyota Camry registered to Roper’s grandfather at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing four black males flee from the vehicle, one wearing a red ski mask and carrying an AR-style pistol. An AR-style pistol and red ski mask were found nearby.

Roper admitted his DNA would be on the ski mask. A phone recovered from the Camry belonged to him and contained videos showing him with a CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S2 Micro firearm. This weapon matched the one found near the crime scene.

Chief Judge Beaverstock sentenced Roper to incarceration and three years of supervised release following his prison term. He was also ordered to pay $100 in special assessments, and the firearm will be forfeited.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama. The investigation involved both the Foley Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kacey Chappelear prosecuting.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, aiming to combat illegal immigration and violent crime through resources from various Department of Justice initiatives.
