A federal grand jury has indicted Michael Lee Kelton, a 44-year-old resident of Gadsden, Alabama, for illegal possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

The indictment alleges that on July 29, 2025, Kelton was found in possession of a Glock .45 semi-automatic pistol. Due to eight prior felony convictions related to drug offenses and theft between 2009 and 2024, Kelton is legally barred from possessing firearms.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) led the investigation with support from the Etowah County Drug Task Force, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, and the Atalla Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Davis A. Barlow is handling the prosecution.

“An indictment contains only charges. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” according to the release.
