A Marengo County man has been sentenced to more than 13 years in federal prison for the armed robbery of a Chevron gas station in Dixon Mills, Alabama. United States District Court Judge Terry F. Moorer handed down a sentence of 157 months to Yancy Xavier Dumas for his role in the January 9, 2024 incident.

According to court documents, Dumas entered the Chevron Gas Station on Highway 43 wearing a mask and armed with a handgun. He pointed the weapon at the cashier and demanded money, telling the victim “give me that bag,” and “I’m going to bust you up.” During the course of the robbery, Dumas fired a round from his handgun to pressure the cashier into complying more quickly. The cashier placed about $5,000 on the counter before Dumas fled using his girlfriend’s car.

The Marengo County Sheriff’s Office began investigating immediately and arrested Dumas later that evening at another gas station owned by the same proprietor. Authorities recovered approximately $3,700 of stolen cash from a shed at Dumas’ mother’s residence and found the handgun at his girlfriend’s trailer.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentencing.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives worked alongside local law enforcement on this case. Assistant United States Attorney George F. May prosecuted.

This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and addressing violent crime through coordinated efforts involving Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
