A Mexican national living in Marion County, Alabama, has been arrested and charged with voting illegally in multiple elections. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Catherine L. Crosby.

According to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court, Homero Ramos, 51, is a lawful permanent resident but has never become a U.S. citizen. Despite this, Ramos registered and voted in state elections while aware that only citizens are allowed to vote under Alabama law. Records from the Alabama Secretary of State and the Probate Court of Marion County indicate that Ramos cast ballots in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections.

Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation with help from the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Brett A. Janich is handling the prosecution.

The offense carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

“A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law,” stated officials.
