A Mexican citizen, Eric Vasquez-Gomez, 24, was sentenced on October 31, 2025, for illegally re-entering the United States after previously being removed. Court records show that Vasquez-Gomez was apprehended following his arrest on September 8, 2025.

The sentencing judge ordered that Vasquez-Gomez serve time equal to what he had already spent in custody since his arrest. Following the sentencing, the court directed that he be handed over to immigration authorities for deportation proceedings.

U.S. Attorney Sean Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the outcome of the case. The Department of Homeland Security led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tandice Blackwood prosecuted the matter for the United States.

The prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice focused on addressing illegal immigration and targeting cartels and transnational criminal organizations through coordinated efforts with Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
