The United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama announced on Mar. 19 that it will join other district courts in hosting the 2026 Virtual POWER Act Event on Wednesday, May 20, at 3:00 PM Central Daylight Time.

The event is part of a national effort to support survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by promoting pro bono legal services. The Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent (POWER) Act was passed by Congress on September 4, 2018. Its main goal is for U.S. District Courts to work with local, tribal, or territorial domestic abuse service providers and volunteer lawyer projects to encourage legal assistance for survivors.

According to the court’s announcement, “We will provide additional information about this event, including registration, in the coming weeks.”

The POWER Act encourages community involvement and aims to empower survivors through access to free legal help. By bringing together courts and local organizations, the act seeks to increase awareness and participation in pro bono efforts.

Further details about how to participate in the virtual event are expected soon.
