A Selma man has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for possessing stolen mail and destroying a U.S. Postal Service collection box, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson.
J’Kwon Tyshi Williams, 21, received his sentence on September 23, 2025. After serving his prison term, Williams will be under supervised release for two years. He must also pay a $5,000 fine and $1,180 in restitution. Federal sentences do not include the possibility of parole.
Court documents and Williams’s plea agreement state that on November 9, 2023, officers from the Millbrook Police Department responded to reports of individuals attempting to break into a blue USPS collection box outside the Millbrook Post Office. Witnesses saw a car parked with its hood up and several people nearby. When police approached, those at the scene left quickly in their vehicle.
Williams was identified as the driver who led police on a chase reaching speeds over 120 miles per hour and crossing into oncoming traffic lanes. The pursuit continued through Elmore County into Dallas County before ending when Williams crashed into a light pole. Williams and others then fled on foot.
Police recovered burglary tools such as a reciprocating saw, tire iron, and pliers from inside the vehicle. They also found Williams’s wallet along with stolen checks, other pieces of stolen mail, check-writing paper, an ammunition magazine for a handgun, ammunition rounds, and multiple ATM deposit receipts.
While the suspects did not manage to open the Millbrook collection box during their attempt, inspectors found it so badly damaged that it needed replacement at a cost of $1,180.
Williams pleaded guilty on June 5, 2025 to unlawful possession of stolen mail and destruction of a letter box.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service together with the Millbrook Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Paul Markovits prosecuted.
