A Walker County resident has received a nine-year prison sentence for drug possession, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.

U.S. District Court Judge Anna M. Manasco sentenced Shannon Wayne Herron, 50, of Jasper, Alabama, to 108 months in prison after he pleaded guilty in February to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The plea agreement states that on November 1, 2023, detectives from the Jasper Police Department Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Jasper. During the search, officers found 366 grams of pure methamphetamine, marijuana, a digital scale, a ledger listing names and dollar amounts, four cell phones, and about $1,800 in cash.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration together with the Jasper Police Department Narcotics Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy Peoples prosecuted the case.
